Venkatachalam Anbumozhi is the Director of Research and Strategy and Innovations at the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Indonesia. His previous positions include Senior Capacity Building Specialist at the Asian Development Bank Institute, Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo, Senior Policy Researcher at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies, and Assistant Manager at Pacific Consultants International, Tokyo.
He has published several books, authored numerous research articles, and produced many project reports on renewable energy policies, green infrastructure design, and private sector participation in low-carbon green growth. Anbumozhi was invited as a member of the G20 task force on Green Financing, APEC Expert Panel on Green Growth, the US-ASEAN advisory group on Smart Low carbon cities, and the ASEAN Panel for promoting climate-resilient growth. He has taught energy resource management, international cooperation for sustainable development, and finance for inclusive growth at the University of Tokyo He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo.
Dr. Shirlyn B. Chua-Reyes is the vice president of Universal Robina Corporation for Corporate Quality and Environment, Health and Safety, Sustainability. She is an experienced professional in Operational Excellence and Supply Chain management, with a focus on Operational Governance, Sustainability, and Environment, Health, and Safety. She specializes in aligning and standardizing approaches for ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) to ensure compliance with UN Sustainable Development Goals, covering areas such as water, energy, waste management, health, safety, community engagement, product quality, nutrition, and packaging.
Dr. Chua-Reyes was a consistent full-time city scholar, an active volunteer in the social involvement program, and a member of the Chapel Aides. She is also an alumna of the Chemical Engineering Program at Xavier Ateneo,
She was honored as one of the Philippines’ Inspiring Filipina Engineers by the Women Engineers Network of the Philippine Technological Council (PTC) in 2019 and received a Distinction Award from the Philippine Federation of Professional Associations (PFPA) in the Professional Association Development Category in 2021.
Dr. Michael Wang is a distinguished figure in the field of energy systems and environmental assessment. As a Senior Scientist and Director of the Systems Assessment Center at Argonne National Laboratory, he has been pivotal in developing and applying the GREET (Greenhouse gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy use in Technologies) model. This model is crucial for evaluating the life-cycle impacts of vehicle technologies, transportation fuels, and broader energy systems.
Since joining Argonne in 1993, Dr. Wang has contributed extensively to understanding and mitigating the environmental impacts of transportation and energy systems. His work, widely cited in research and academic circles, has informed policy and industry practices globally. He collaborates with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, automotive and energy companies, and research institutions in various countries.
Dr. Wang serves as a faculty associate at the Consortium for Advanced Science and Engineering at the University of Chicago and as a senior fellow at the Northwestern Argonne Institute of Science and Engineering. He is also a fellow of the International Society of Automotive Engineers and holds editorial positions with several journals. Dr. Wang’s extensive publication record, with over 300 papers, reflects his significant contributions to the fields of energy and environmental research. His work continues to shape the understanding and development of sustainable transportation and energy systems worldwide.
Dr. Jose V. Camacho, Jr. is the 10th chancellor of UPLB. He started his term on November 1, 2020, and was appointed for a second term on November 1, 2023. He was the dean of the Graduate School from February 2012 to October 2020 and is a professor of economics at the College of Economics and Management (CEM). His vision-mission statement, “Future-Proofing UPLB,” focuses on enhancing UPLB’s human resources, lifelong learning, research and innovation, social welfare, and global engagement.
Dr. Camacho has held several key positions, including associate dean and chair of academic programs at CEM (2007-2012), chair of the Department of Economics (2001-2004), and chair of various Technical Working Groups at the Commission on Higher Education. He earned his Doctor of Economics from Kyoto University, Japan, his Master of Arts in Economics from Erasmus University, Netherlands, and his Bachelor of Science in Economics from UPLB.
Maria Victoria Migo-Sumagang is an Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). She obtained her Chemical Engineering degrees from the following institutions: a Bachelor of Science from UPLB (magna cum laude), a Master of Science from UPLB (recipient of the Academic Achievement Award), and a Ph.D. from De La Salle University (honored with the Outstanding Dissertation Award).
She is a registered Associate ASEAN Engineer and a member of the National Research Council of the Philippines. Her current research involves the application of process integration to negative emissions technologies (NET) portfolios for a systems-level outlook on these technologies. She has published several peer-reviewed journals on this topic and co-authored a correspondence article in Nature Computational Science about computing optimal NET portfolios.
She also published a letter in Science entitled “The Philippines Must Commit to Mitigation,” which emphasizes the importance of equally prioritizing climate change adaptation and mitigation actions in the country.
Dr. Anthony Halog is a leading expert in sustainability and industrial ecology, serving as Chair and Head of the Research Group of Industrial Ecology and Circular Economy at the University of Queensland. His work focuses on integrating environmental, economic, and social aspects to advance sustainable development.
Dr. Halog leads interdisciplinary projects, influences sustainability policies across sectors, and collaborates with global organizations. He is a prominent speaker and has been a Visiting Professor at prestigious institutions like Imperial College London and the University of the Philippines – Diliman. His contributions to life cycle assessment and circular economy principles are widely recognized through international fellowships and accolades.

Dr. Rex B Demafelis
Dr. Rex B. Demafelis is the dean of the College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology (CEAT) at UPLB. He is a UP Scientist I under the UP Scientific Productivity System and a Professor 12 at the Department of Chemical Engineering.
He chairs the Biofuels Research Studies Center and serves as co-chair of the Life Cycle Assessment Laboratory.
He is an ASEAN Engineer and Chartered Professional Engineer, and chairs the governing council of the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE) College of Fellows.
Previously, Dr. Demafelis served as vice-chancellor for research and extension at UPLB (2014-2020) and as national president of PIChe (2004-2005). His accolades include the 2022 PFPA Excellence Award and the 2015 Manila Water Foundation Prize for Engineering Excellence.
With a research focus on biofuels and life cycle assessments, Dr. Demafelis has led over 55 projects, published more than 60 papers, and authored several books and policy papers.

Asst. Prof. Bernadette T. Magadia
Engr. Bernadette T. Magadia is a professional chemical engineer and researcher at UPLB, with a master’s degree in environmental science. She chairs the UPLB Interdisciplinary Life Cycle Assessment Laboratory and is the national co-convenor of the Philippine National Consortium on Net Zero Initiative.
Her research focuses on environmental sustainability and life cycle assessments, including biofuel production and environmental footprint analyses. Engr. Magadia is an Assistant Professor 4 at theUPLB Department of Chemical Engineering and Graduate School.
She teaches courses on Life Cycle Assessment, Sustainable Engineering, and Chemical Engineering Plant Design. She mentors students in chemical engineering and environmental science and is involved in research and consultancy projects as a leader, manager, and environmental impact consultant.
She has published 16 refereed journals, authored books and policy papers, and conducted numerous training courses on life cycle assessment.
