Rationale
The global urgency to combat climate change and achieve net zero targets has never been more pronounced. Countries worldwide are recognizing the importance of integrating sustainability into their national agendas. In this context, the 2024 International Symposium on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) aims to address the critical role of LCA in achieving sustainable transitions globally.
As nations strive to meet ambitious climate targets, there is an urgent need for comprehensive frameworks that guide policy-making, business practices, and consumer behavior towards sustainability. LCA provides a holistic approach to understanding the environmental impacts of products and processes throughout their lifecycle, enabling informed decisions that contribute to sustainable development.
This symposium seeks to empower nations by showcasing innovative LCA applications and fostering collaborative efforts to implement sustainable practices effectively.
Speakers

Kudoh Yuki earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. in geosystem engineering from the University of Tokyo. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute for Environmental Studies before joining the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in 2004, where he is now Deputy Director of the Global Zero Emission Research Center. He is also a Visiting Professor at Yokohama National University.
His research focuses on the integration of low-carbon technologies into society, assessing their energy, economic, and environmental impacts. He explores pathways for implementing clean energy technologies to
achieve carbon neutrality and advances system design for their social deployment.
Prof. Wang earned his Ph.D. from North Carolina State University, USA, and worked at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) before joining the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, in 2014.
His research focuses on fuel and combustion, promoting sustainable aviation through innovations in aviation. Prof. Wang emphasizes the development and application of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to reduce carbon emissions.
His research includes producing SAF through hydro-processing, investigating ignition behaviors, flame speed, and soot formation, and assessing energy, economic, and environmental impacts.
Prof. Wang’s work drives sustainable aviation innovations and supports cleaner energy systems in aeronautics.
Dr. Hanafi is the founder and principal of Life Cycle Indonesia with over 20 years of experience in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and sustainability. She is an expert and project leader in the ISO Steering Committees on environmental labels, greenhouse gas emissions, and LCA, and a member of the ISO/TC 323 working group on Circular Economy.
Dr. Hanafi is a technical expert for Bappenas, helping to develop roadmaps and action plans for circular economy initiatives. Her insights have shaped public policies on LCA integration, food loss and waste management, environmental declarations, and eco-industrial parks.
In the private sector, she assists companies in adopting LCA and sustainability practices. Her company is the global network partner for SimaPro LCA software in Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia, offering tools and solutions for sustainability assessments.
Dr. Hanafi’s work advances sustainable practices and fosters a circular economy in the region.
Dr. Promentilla is a Chemical Engineering Professor at DLSU and leads the Waste and Resource Management Unit of CESDR. He heads the G.A.M.E.R.S. Lab and startup GMATrix. His research includes decision modeling, sustainable materials, and climate-resilient systems.
He leads the “Green Mining” and “NexCities” projects and developed a climate-smart health system roadmap with DOST PCHRD.
Awarded by NAST and UPLB, he holds a BS from UPLB, an MS from UP Diliman, and a doctorate from Hokkaido University. He has over 150 publications and an h-index of 30.
